Cailyn is the current National Convener of Young Scots for Independence (the YSI), the SNP’s influential youth wing. She is also currently a Politics and Social and Public Policy student at Glasgow University. However, before she found politics, Cailyn was a National Level Scottish swimmer.
Cailyn is a New Scot; whose family is of German origin. She was born in South Africa and later lived in England and Dubai, before finding her home in Scotland in 2014. Being exposed to so many cultures led her to utilise her lived experience to drive her activism, having fought tirelessly, spearheading or being a part of numerous momentous policy campaigns within the SNP. This has included issues from climate change to consent education and mental health, as well as raising the age of military recruitment.
She was also previously a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament where she led a successful local campaign on period poverty in Fife, where her family now live in Scotland.
Cailyn is unwavering in her belief and passion for equality for all. One of her main aims in her politics has always been to empower other women and improve female engagement in politics. Cailyn has done a power of work on this internally within the YSI and the SNP and continues to be driven by the fight for social justice in all its forms.
