Meg Wishart

Age: 17
Location: Broxburn

At 17, Meg is determined, hardworking and driven by the fight against injustice, morals and the desire to learn from others. Meg volunteers regularly and believes in giving time for others; community is something everyone can engage in and learn from.

Not interested in competition, Meg says she strives to help others flourish and progress, this is a satisfaction greater than a trophy or award. She is actively coordinating food banks and working as a team to raise money for Project Magale, funding young girls’ education.

While balancing her studies, Meg is currently her school captain, focussed on recognising the needs of her peers and looking to implement student-led change. She sees this role as a service for the students, acting on their behalf and doing her best to acknowledge needs across all year groups. Alongside this, Meg has been awarded the Heriot-Watt University Leadership Award for her work with younger pupils in school.

Meg attributes her confidence to her time in her school Debate Club. Debating is not commonplace in public schools and Meg ran with this opportunity, in her team, she’s learned the importance of humility. She has been a finalist at the ESU Debating Society, discussing individual action on climate change; the only female to do so! Meg’s dedication to others is admirable and her drive she says comes back to enabling others. Her motivations are founded in the idea of making a long term difference, change for good. She credits her parents and teachers for their encouragement and hopes to continue volunteering with charities and engaging with extra-curricular activities in the future.  She is hoping to study History and English at University.
