Ellie is the Vice Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament and has been an MSYP for Glasgow Cathcart since 2019. Ellie is a fierce campaigner for the incorporation and implementation of the UNCRC, and in her role on the board of SYP she led ‘The Right Way’ project. The project created a range of resources to support decision makers and officials to meaningfully engage with young people.

Ellie also runs a campaign called ‘Grieving And Growing’, this aims to raise awareness of the effects loss can have on young people and calls for more to be done to support young people who have suffered a bereavement. She launched this campaign during Children’s Grief Awareness Week 2022 and since then has shared ‘12 Days of Self Care’ over Christmas, worked with YouthLink Scotland and Cruse Bereavement Scotland to design a training session for youth workers, and raised the issue at the Scottish Cabinet takeover in 2023. She has also worked with ‘It’s Time’, a charity supporting young people who have lost parents. She featured on their web series ‘Growing Through Grief’ and took part in their ‘Walk in Memory’, raising over £700 for the charity.

In her role as an SYP Board Member, Ellie sits on the Scottish Government’s Gender Equality in Education Taskforce and represents the organisation on the board of YoungScot. She also represented Glasgow at the Eurocities conference in Finland as a future mentor, to discuss how young people can be meaningfully included in conversations around climate change.
