I volunteer for my local charity. This means helping the clubs and activities. I help with all the kid’s clubs. The P1 to 3 club, the Primary 4 to 7 club, the Primary 7 to High School club and the STEM club. I help set these clubs up, design activities for them and to run the club itself. I work really closely with the kids to make sure that they are enjoying themselves. I also help with all the school holiday clubs the charity delivers. In February, Easter, Summer and October.

I also help with the weekly elderly biscuit bingo. I help plan and deliver the monthly elderly events. I help set them up and tidy up. I also help with the deliveries for the community shop, packing them away and stock taking. When we have food referrals from families in need I help make food parcels for them from our community shop.

I am the youth representative on the Board of Directors; in this role, I help manage the young volunteers. I arrange meetings and all communication between the volunteers, as well as the volunteer’s inductions and tours. I manage the volunteer rewards and co-manage the annual volunteer celebrations.

I also help with administration and the general day-to-day activities of the charity. I have good relationships with the staff, the directors and the volunteers. Also with the regular users of the shop. I help with all special events from Father’s Day to Halloween. Over Christmas, we have a full programme from Breakfast with Santa, Elf Academy and creating the Grotto.

I really just help whenever the staff ask me to. Over time I have been given more and more roles which have become mine. This year the staff and board of directors picked me to win the volunteer of the year. I just really like helping out here as the community really rely on the charity.
